The Loss of Great Minds

Yesterday on the radio while driving down the road I heard a discussion about translators that could translate books in Egyptian to English. They could use so many more translators.

Then they talked about how dangerous it is to live in Egypt and how they are experiencing 'brain drain' meaning smart people are leaving. Fleeing to safer places. Can you imagine if all the smart people in your country left?

I think companies in the US often lay off the smartest people rather than pay them more. Then we wonder why the people left running the companies are so inept. Or they hire new people who know nothing about the business and pay them more than the people with experience. Such things create animosity which can escalate to violence. It's wiser to be loyal to your loyal employees.
