War on TV I Don't Get It

I often wonder why my boyfriend and my father watch so many war shows. Some are fictitious accounts of real wars, and other are documentaries that go on and on endlessly explaining war machines and marching strategies and weapon 'one-ups-man-ship'. I think it's important to be aware that wars happened and what the consequences are, but I don't think it's healthy to have those images put into your brain again and again and again. But they do have the right to watch what they watch and I have the right to walk out of the room and go do something else outside of the earshot of bombs falling on Pearl Harbor for the 1000th time.

Today for Earth Day 2010 I made a Peace t-shirt. It's soaking wet so I'll have to wait until tomorrow to iron the wax off of the Peace sign. It took me most of the day. I look forward to wearing it.

Obviously I'm still alive. We figured it was just a dumb Halloween prank.
This neighborhood makes me so sad. Every night new graffitti appears. It costs people so much money to sandblast away the damage to brick walls, trees, and side walks or to paint over walls. All the local businesses get tagged regularly. Our landlord is slow with painting over graffitti. I hate to call him out all the way from Fullerton to paint over something. He should cruise by more often to see for himself what needs done anyway. Or maybe he figures if no one complains about it why bother to fix it. But a little graffitti attacks more graffitti. It's a neverending disease.

Welcome Home or Not

I was out of town all day and got home after dark. I hadn't left a light on so my porch was dark. But even in the dark I could see a yellow post it note stuck to my door. I figured it was from a neighbor asking if I could feed their cat or something. So I grabbed it and went inside to read it. It had my name on it but spelled wrong. Then it said "This is your killer. In two days you die."

Here I am an advocate for peace and I'm so disappointed to come home and find an implied act of violence. I figure it was just the neighborhood kids that were bored on a Sunday afternoon so they decided to create some drama. But now what? Do I let the police know? They'd probably just laugh at me. What would you do?

Beware of False Peacemakers

I was about to start a blog on Peace, to in a tiny way counteract all the publicity that War is getting. So I remembered a bible verse about blessing the peacemakers. So I googled that up and this was the first quote I came across, that to me in a nutshell shows how out of context the bible can be taken.
"Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called Sons of God...
God Bless America and all of our soldiers fighting for our freedom and protection"

That was on a Christian site. In what crazy demented universe have we been taught that a person who kills for a living is a peacemaker? I guess in a sense that if you kill all your enemies you get peace by default. Sick.
